Sean Skehan on Aguilas

This the newest destination with which I think it is fair to say that I have really fallen in love with. I just really think the place is charming and lovely and just the kind of place which is right for Killester Travel clients.

Most of you have never heard of it but that is what I have been doing for forty years and I am still looking and still finding new places to visit and they all have their own distinctive flavour.

In Aguilas the hotel, Juan Montiel, is a family owned and run property. Olga the owner is always around and the one thing that everybody who has been there so far comes back and says that the staff are wonderful and friendly and that it is an absolute fact.

You can walk to the town of Aguilas, from the hotel to the centre of town it is fifteen minutes but the nearest good restaurant is only three or four minutes away so to get to the centre you would pass a lot on the way.

The food in the hotel is really lovely with special carving roast every evening and of course all types of fish available because it is on the sea. It has a beautiful beach onsite and two lovely golf courses, both of which are less than twenty minutes from the hotel.

A couple of people have asked whether we would do an all-inclusive trip there and as far as I am concerned it would be a waste of time. At the bar, a glass of wine costs €2 and a beer also costs €2 and Joe Cuddy confirmed that a coffee cost exactly €1 so why would anyone go for all-inclusive. A bottle of wine at dinner costs €10 so the value in the hotel is excellent. One of the other advantages while staying at this hotel is that you can have lunch instead of dinner which means that you can pop out at night and enjoy the restaurants in the town during your stay.

One of the features of the trip is their "tapas tour" where you visit four or five local bars and sample the food in each one of them, it really is a super evening and tends to lead to a sing-song at the end of the night.

Lovely, warm, friendly hotel and we know that you will enjoy, and of course it is outstanding value as well.
